Rainbow Press grabaron dos Lp’s para el misterioso sello Mr G, “There’s a war on” (1968 ) y “Sunday Funnys” (1969). El disco es una especie de soft pop psicodélico de bella factura. 10 canciones originales, firmadas la mayoría por Mark Ellis, en las que predominan las armonías pop, mezcladas a veces con esporádicos arranques de fuzz y otras con toques de garage que dejaran satisfechos a los coleccionistas de material de esta época.
Es una rareza y poco o nada se encuentra en la red. Para que os hagáis una idea, a mi me recuedan mucho a los primeros Strawberry Alarm Clocks.
La reedición es del fantástico, pero siempre escaso en información, sello aleman Radioactive Records. Portadas y contraportadas incluidas.

En el apartado de Soul de esta página hay un hueco que se debería rellenar y creo que con este disco podemos empezar. Solo es un 16 All-time hits, que no refleja la grandeza del gran Smokey Robinson, pero algo es algo. Este “señor” fue uno de los grandes compositores de éxitos para la Motown Records. Llegó a ser su vicepresidente y junto con The Miracles, grabaron una serie de éxitos, entre ellos “Shop Around” primer nº 1 del gran sello del soul. Y el primer álbum de la Motown que apareció en las listas fue “You’ve really got a hold on me”, tema que versionearon The Beatles. Otro tema a destacar es el famoso “I second That emotion” (los tres citados están en este pequeño recopilatorio) El soul de Smokey Robinson con The Miracles y luego en solitario, es un soul de altos vuelos, a veces juguetón, otras elegante y siempre con un sello que proporcionaba su aguda voz.

Incluye 20 temas de:The Sonics, The Wailers, The Oxford Circle, The Last World, She, Mouse and the Traps, The Revels, The Spiders The Zombies, The Weels, The Radiators, Riff Raff, The Damned, The Milkshakes, The Vives, Tall Boys, Naz Nomad and the Nightmares, The Delmonas, The Prisoners, The Bugs.
The Garage / Beat / Punk Rock record kicks off with the weirdest soundtrack to a car ad for a long while. Have Love Will Travel, the Richard Berry classic as mangled by the Sonics, must have helped shift a pile of Land Rovers. Stable-mates the Wailers are next up and out of their trees, a pretty good way to start any garage band selection. OK the Revels is a bit earlier, but a little weirdsville never hurt anyone. These Spiders are not from Mars, but from Japan, where they were doyens of the GS scene in the 60s, as indeed were our own spookily named Zombies, both here and even more so Stateside. The Wheels were from Belfast and you better believe it. We have three short sharp bursts of Punk Rock next and note that the version of Melody Lee by the Damned has never been out before. Finally we return to the garage, though this time for the 80s revival, kicking off with Billy Childish second group Thee Milkshakes and four tracks later their girlfriends the Delmonas. For four years in the early 80s these garage bands were the only people left standing up for real music by real men (& women) against a plethora of haircuts and trousers worn by men playing ironing boards. The Bugs - now they were a band that mysteriously came and went time for a fresh outing.

Otro de esos discos difíciles de encontrar en la red. Los Red Guitars fueron una buena banda de pop Rock inglés que estuvo activa entre 1982 y 1986. Sonido de guitarras a veces fresco, a veces ambientes envolventes. Este fue su último trabajo, del que destacaría el tema Nacional Avenue. La banda estaba formada por Robert Colmes (voz y guitarra) – Lou Howard (bajo) – Hallam Lewis (guitarra y coros) – John Howley (guitar / one finger – teclados) – Mattehw Higgins (bateria). Parece ser que reaparecieron veinte años después en el Winterlude Festival de Hull (UK) de donde eran originarios, el 11 de febrero del 2006.
